What Is Random Access Memory

RAM is a volatile memory, it is stopped when the power supply, lost its memory. Therefore, the data stays in RAM while the computer is turned on. RAM is much faster read and write, can be compared to other storage media such as hard disks, CD-ROM, diskette, RAM, etc., both read and written, so it is sometimes referred to as read / write memory.

There are two basic types of RAM:

(a) Dynamic RAM (DRAM)

(b)Static RAM (SRAM)

(a) Dynamic RAM (DRAM): Dynamic Random Access Memory is the most common type of RAM that stores each one bit of data in a separate capacitor and a transistor. Capacitors tend to leak electrons, thus there is a need for recharging. Therefore, DRAM, SRAM, in contrast must have refreshed his memory cells or given an electric charge every few milliseconds. This refresh requirement operation is from where dynamic RAM gets its name. DRAM is a volatile memory becauseit loses data when the power is switched off.

DRAM's structural simplicity gives it an advantage over SRAM. It consists of only one transistor and one capacitor per bit, the basis of which it has a very high density. SRAM, on the other hand, requires six transistors.

There are three basic types of DRAM:

(i) Synchronous DRAM (SDRAM): While all other types of DRAM work asynchronously to the system clock, Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory, a type of DRAM,synchronizes itself with the microprocessor clock speed. It is a sort of RAM that is twice as fast as EDO DRAM. The speed of SDRAM is rated in MHz than in nanoseconds. SDRAM chips are mounted on DIMM memory modules. These memory modules are in accordance with the CPU speed, which they are intended to support classified to.

(ii) Rambus DRAM (RDRAM) Rambus Dynamic Random Access Memory is a type of synchronous dynamic
RAM developed by Rambus Corporation. It is a highSpeed memory technology, the transmission of data up to 800 MHz. Since narrows the RDRAM memory bus to 16-bit systems get more speed by using parallel channels. RDRAM has heatsinks paid to heat that is a major issue with RDRAM. Production of RDRAM is expensive compared to other RAMs

RDRAM memory modules (RIMM) can be used only on the motherboards specifically designed for them. A 16-bit and 32-bit RDRAM RIMM have 184 and 232 pinsrespectively.

(iii) DDR-SDRAM: stands for Double Data Rate Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory. It is a type of memory integrated circuits used in computers. DDR transfers data over the bus over both (rising and falling) edges of the clock, doubling the data throughput over that of standard SDRAM. DDR memory runs at bus speeds of up to 400 MHz. DDR memory chips to 184 -pin DIMM modules installed. Is DDR SDRAM consumes less power, thereforebest suited for laptops.

b () static RAM (SRAM): Static Random Access Memory is the kind of RAM that its data without external refresh, as long as the force has still applied, unlike DRAM, are being updated at regular intervals. It is a kind of memory that is faster and more reliable than DRAM (dynamic RAM). Since Static RAM operates on the principle of motion of electricity, it is a fleeting memory.

There are three basic types of Static RAM (SRAM):

o asyncSRAM: Short for asynchronous Static Random Access Memory. It is an older type of SRAM, which works independently of the system clock that is asynchronous.

o Sync SRAM: Short for synchronous Static Random Access Memory. This kind of memory is synchronized with the system clock. The SRAM is more expensive.

o Pipeline Burst SRAM: This is the commonly used memory. Pipeline means larger packets sent back into memory at once and willacted on very quickly. This type of SRAM can operate at bus speeds greater than 66 MHz.

Notebook-Laptop Memory (RAM) Upgrade In 5 Minutes Or Less

This article is in two parts, set up a part of RAM data and a second part about RAM upgrade. If you like the RAM works are curious, you will find a detailed list that you give all the information that you should know about RAM, organization and speed. To see exactly how the section upgrade, please go directly to the second part upgrade laptop RAM in 5 minutes or less.

1 - RAM Overview

There are two large groups of randomAccess Memories:

* Dynamic memory (DRAM, Dynamic Random Access Module), not very expensive. They are used in most cases for the central computer memory

* Static memory (SRAM, Static Random Access Module), fast and expensive. SRAM is used mainly because of the cache memory of processor

Functioning of the Random Access Memory

The Random Access Memory is a hundred thousand small capacitors store charges. If it is loaded, thelogical state of the capacitor is equal to 1, otherwise it belongs to 0, which means that each capacitor represents a bit of memory.

Then load the capacitors off, it is always necessary, in an area of regulation time to recharge cycle called the refreshment. DRAM memory cycles need of refreshment, for example, (N) is about 15 nanoseconds.

Each capacitor is coupled with a transistor allowing to "recover" or change the state of the capacitor. ThisTransistors are lined up in the form of matrix, that is, they reached a hut memory (called memory) by a row and a column.

So, for a DRAM-type memory card is) the date of access of 60 nanoseconds (35ns delay of 25 ns cycle and the time of latency. On a computer that corresponds to the time of the cycle, contrary to the frequency of the clock, for example, pulsed for a computer with 200 MHz, the time of the cycle is 5 ns (1 / (200 * 106)).

As a result of a computer with aFrequency well trained and memories with the time of access, one of which still carry a lot longer than the time of the cycle, the processor cycles to wait for accessing the memory card. In the case of a computer with 200 MHz with memories of DRAM pulsed types (the time of access of 60ns) is, there are 11 cycles waiting as a cycle transfer. The performances of the computer are reduced as far as it cycles

Use of Random Access Memory (RAM)

ThereNumerous types of random access memories. All of this pair in the form of barrettes of memory on the motherboard to come.

* SIMM (Single Inline Memory Module): it is about printed circuits in which one of the faces has fleas of memory. There are two types of barrettes SIMM, by the number of cord (30 or 72)

* DIMM (Dual Inline Memory Modulates) are from the memory of the 64-bit, which explains why it is necessary to adapt them.Barrettes DIMM have fleas of memory on both sides of the PCB and also 84-connector cables on each side, giving what they are, with a total of 168 brooches. They have bigger dimensions than barrettes SIMM 130x25mm ().

* RIMM (Rambus Inline Memory Module, conscripts also RD-RAM or DRD-RAM) are from the memory of 64 bits developed by the company Rambus. They have 184 brooches. These barrettes have two notches of location (détrompeurs) avoidance of very confusionwith the previous modules. Considering their well brought up speed of transfer, barrettes RIMM have made a thermal film is responsible for mitigating the adjustment of the heat. As in the case of DIMM modules of smaller size, there are so-called RIMM (Small Outline RIMM), which for laptop computers. Barrettes SO RIMM include only 160 brooches.

* DRAM (Dynamic RAM, dynamic RAM) is the type of memo most spread at the beginning of the millennium. It is a reminder ofTransistors in a matrix lined by rows and columns. A transistor coupled to a capacitor, the information is a little bit. 1 byte consists of 8 bits, a barrette Memory 256 MB DRAM will therefore contain 256 * 2 ^ 10 * 2 ^ 10 = 256 to 1024 * * on 1024 = 268 435 456 bytes = 268 435 456 * 8 = 2 147 483 648 bits = 2 147 483 648 transistors. A 256 Mb barrette has so in reality, a capacity of 268 435 456 bytes, which is 268 MB! There are memories from which the timeAccess is 60 ns. Accesses on the other hand, on memory, are usually on data lined up in succession made in the memory. So the type of access at peak (burst mode) allows the three consecutive data in the first time, without providing additional latency.

* FPM DRAM speed up accesses to DRAM, it is a technology, called pagination, consisting in achieving data on the same column, by using the address of the line is just what you can avoid the repetition, the number of gaps between the reading of individual lines. They speak of FPM DRAM () Fast Page Mode. FPM allows to acquire time of access in the order of 70 to - 80 nanoseconds for a frequency of operation, that 25 can go up to 33 Mhz.

* DRAM EDO (Extended Data Out, is relieved from the data sometimes called "hyper-page") appears in 1995. The technology used with this type of memory is an in addressing the next column to read the dataColumn. It creates an overlapping of accesses allowing to save more time for each cycle. The period of access to memory EDO is therefore about 50 to 60 nanoseconds for a frequency of operation to go from 33 to 66 Mhz. So, if EDO RAM is used in peak mode, allows the cycles of the form 5-2-2-2 purchase that a benefit of 4 cycles to access to 4 data. As much as you do not accept EDO memory, the upper frequencies in 66 Mhz, disappeared in the amount of SDRAM.

* SDRAM (Synchronous DRAM;translate synchronous RAM), appeared in 1997, provides a readout of the data bus of the card-mother, in contrast to memories of EDO and FPM (qualified as asynchronous synchronized) that has its own rhythm. SDRAM allows therefore, owe themselves of free time to wait for synchronization with the card-mother. This makes it possible to obtain a cycle peak in the mode of form 5-1-1-1, that is the benefit of 3 cycles in comparison with EDO RAM. In this way, SDRAM working with a cadenza is so long, to 150 in a positionMhz, with which he purchased from the time of access to 10 ns.

* DR-SDRAM (Direct Rambus DRAM or RDRAM otherwise) is a type of memory lets you transfer data width of a bus with 16 bits at a cadence of 800 MHz, giving him a passer-band of 1.6 Go / s . As SDRAM is synchronized, this type of memory with the clock the bus has to improve the exchange of data.

* Is DDR SDRAM (Double Dated Miss SDRAM), a memory based on SDRAM technology that allows the doubleRate of transmission of SDRAM with the same frequency. Reading or writing data in the storage bin out on the basis of a clock. Uses standard DRAM memory, a method of conscripts SDR (Single Data Fails) consisting in reading or writing data up in every forehead. DDR allows to double the frequency of reading / writings, with a clock pulsated in the same frequency, rising by sending data in every forehead, and all down his brow. DDR memory is usually acommercial designation of the type PCxxxx where "xxxx" represents the liabilities side in Mb / s.

* DDR2 (or DDR-II reach) allows up to twice as well brought up debit sides as DDR with the same external frequency. They speak about QDR (Quadruple Dated Fail or quad-pumped) to indicate the method and to use article writing. DDR2 memory used, in fact, two separate channels for reading and writing, allowing it to send or accept twice more data than capable of DDR.

2 - Update yourLaptop RAM

Upgrading a notebook memory is a special simple process pending that you have the correct RAM and you are a little touchy.

There are different types of RAM, and you need the one that is compatible with your notebook to choose. The memory is a fragile, so you must be very careful when you install it. You should make sure that the laptop is switched off and disconnected from any external power supply. No light should visible.

It is much easier to install RAM on a laptop versus a desktop PC. Access to the memory slots is via a panel, usually at the bottom of the laptop is located. If you use this plate with a small screwdriver you can use the existing memory, click open. Here you can see the exact type of memory that your Notebook currently uses to verify because it is usually on the front of the store shows stripes and becomes clear when you open the> Storage panel.

The memory strips are usually with small clips on the ends of the strip closed. To remove existing memory, turn the clips and then remove the memory strips gently from their site. If you are simply adding memory and space is available, simply add the new memory card, pressed it gently to ensure that it fully seated in the slot and press the clips to hold the new memory card into position.

OnceIt will replace or complement your notebook computer memory, replace the cover, and then screw the panel back on. Finally, turn on the notebook, when the PC is started, it will count the memory and tell you how much RAM is being loaded on your laptop.

As long as you have the right memory, the whole operation should take less than 5 minutes, you can be faster with your less crash prone laptop.

How To Do Your Own Computer or Laptop Memory Upgrade

Refresh is the memory of your computer or laptop is one of the
The easiest and most cost effective ways to improve your computer's
Performance. Still many computer owners to spare no memory are
Upgrade to a number of reasons: lack of knowledge, warranty issues,
For fear of ruining their computers, compatibility concerns, or just a
innate feeling that the inside of the computer is only a few foreigners
Territory they must neverVenture.

Like many things in life that seems to be a computer memory upgrade
more complicated than it actually is. Most of the opinion
comes from a lack of knowledge. Let's face it, the average computer user
Users can only have a vague idea about DVD drives, video cards
Cards and the like.

They know their computer works when they turn it on and that's all
what really to them. But what most people do not know, is
with a littleInvestment of time and a few dollars, they can
their computer work better and faster. It is an investment that
to pay off quickly, you will not only save time if you do
daily living computer, but the overall enjoyment of your computer or
Laptop will increase significantly.

It is best to solve this problem or a problem with some good information
on all factors involved in the modernization of your computer
Memory. Let's start with the basics and work from there.

System. To the author's resource box below and click on the link.
There will be redirected to a page where you will find a Memory Advisor Tool
That can scan your system and tell you what memory upgrades are
possible with your particular computer or> Laptop.)

Step One: Know Your RAM

RAM or Random Access Memory. This is what the computer uses to run
Applications and data on your computer. You need it to run your
Computer-OS operating system, your need is for dealing with graphics,
Files, Web browsing, e-mail and multi-tasking. RAM is for the
Operation of your computer. As a general rule, the higher the amount
RAM you have, the faster your computer will work or be executed.

Tothings get a bit more complicated, there are many types of RAM. The type
of RAM in your computer or laptop may depend on the years, it was
made.

From mid-2004 most of the computers have DDR2 (Double Data Rate
second generation) SDRAM (synchronous dynamic RAM). Prior to that time
many computers had DDR (double data rate, first generation) SDRAM.
Most older systems use SDR (Single Data Rate) SDRAM, Fast Page Mode
(FPM) or Extended Data Out (EDO).

Tocomplicate matters even further, comes the most types of RAM
in different speeds!

DDR2 SDRAM is a new standard that can boost conventional SDRAM
Memory up to speeds well over 200 MHz and beyond. For example, the
New IBM ThinkPad T43, thanks to the Sonoma Chipset or platform
533MHz DDR 2 SDRAM.

This is much better than standard SDRAM which tops out around 150-166MHz
and DDR SDRAM which starts at 200MHz and goes to about 400 MHz.

NoteSpirit means DRAM Dynamic Random Access Memory and SDRAM means
Synchronous Dynamic RAM.

And to really confuse that faster RAM speed does not (alone)
Go faster your computer, you need to upgrade or increase the amount of
RAM in your computer system to improve performance. Also note
Your computer has been accepted to a particular memory speed and there is no
benefit in excess of this limit.

It is generally recommended that youGet the fastest speeds for your
System that will enable them to improve compatibility and facilitate
for future upgrades.

Step Two: Know Your Machine

Undoubtedly, the compatibility of the most important factor is
Buying a memory upgrade for your laptop or computer. It is essential
that any updates to your computer or machine, that is compatible
otherwise it is not just work.

Therefore, you need to know the amount and type of RAMThey have
in your computer or laptop. The best way to discover this, it is necessary to
your owner's manual. It should tell you what kind of RAM your system
uses, it should also say that the maximum amount of RAM in your
System can attain.

Obviously, an easy way to ensure that you no longer than the maximum
Memory on your computer, just subtract your current memory
the permissible limit specifications set out in your system. For example,
If yourComputer takes a maximum of 512 MB of RAM, and you have 256
installed, you can upgrade to an additional 256 MB of RAM
(512 - 256 = 256).

They should also be aware that DDR is not backward / forward-compatible,
which means that if you have a computer that does not have an upgrade
DDR technology, it will not upgrade to a DDR.

Similarly, DDR2 is not backward compatible, which means if your system
not DDR2 technology, it will not accept DDR2update.

So check your system very carefully and see what kind of RAM and has
the maximum amount of memory it will take. You must also consider whether
Your computer warranty is null and void if you install the RAM
yourself! Some manufacturers actually seal your computer case and you
have an authorized technician to install RAM.

Step Three: How much RAM do you need?

It is generally accepted that at least 256 MB for Windows XP and have
Mac OS X. They are only 128 MB for other operating systems on Windows
or Mac. Most general office work and heavy multi-tasking may have 512 MB
RAM. Gamers or Professional Graphic workers usually need the RAM --
up to 2 GB of RAM or more.

Please note, installing a higher RAM speed (as mentioned above) does not
Increase the speed of your computer or laptop. The only way to increase
computer speed is to increase the size of memory;have
in your system. If you speed up to 256 MB RAM 512 MB of RAM
Your computer. Going to 2 GB of RAM will make it even faster. Benchmark
Tests have shown that you can get from 28% to 43% increase
To increase performance, depending on the amount of RAM.

However, there is always a spoiler and other parts of the computer must
able to deal with this increase. Your computer will only go as fast as your
slowest link. In other words, you mustUpgrade other elements in

Check this factor before making your memory upgrade. Otherwise,
You can just waste your time and money.

Another aspect is the memory of your video or graphics card
in your system. The amount of VRAM is the most important factor in your display

GraphicsYou increased performance especially for the treatment
Graphics and video, as in 3D gaming.

Fourth step, your order RAM

There are over 110,000 different memory upgrades, you can choose!

There are many places to store your RAM from your local computer
on the website. If you are ordering online, one of the most respected
Pages Crucial.com - these people are memory experts and know their

Some other thing to keep in mind when you place your order RAM. Many desktop
Systems or computers to use what is considered "non-parity" memory which
ie, it does not have ECC (Error Correction Code), or "parity"
Modules.

Here, buffered and unbuffered are other terms that
will come - they relate to how a particular memory module
processed signals. In general, most PC-taking unbuffered systems

Memory. This RAM is used primarily in servers.

Step Five: Install the new memory, or RAM

If your online RAM, you will get your RAM module

Improve Laptop Memory with Virus Repair

The memory is crucial for the operation of your laptop or computer for that matter. The memory is for every tiny bit of processing, do not use your computer. From start to shut down and all that is between the storage of crucial importance. But did you know that a virus could actually be on your computer you eat your laptop memory?

Viruses are nasty bugs that to reach the heart of the computer in many cases. Oftenwork in the background, knowing that you still. However, because they operate in the background, they are also compatible with your memory, as you know, you can use in other important areas. Have for this reason, if you're having some memory problems and a virus found on your computer to repair your laptop's memory with a virus.

Virus repair can be carried out in various ways. You can either use a well-established anti-virus scanning programthe laptop for bugs and then fix it at the same time, or you can repair your laptop to a certified technician virus and take him or her to do the work for you. In any case, it is important to rid your laptop with the virus, improving the overall health of your laptop, and finally to your laptop's memory.

The memory is always used if your laptop is turned on. With every process that occurs, theMemory is accessed, which means that there will be a little less used for another program. Even if you are a good bit of memory on your laptop, a virus may be still below their toll. You never want to leave a virus on your computer, sitting for long periods because it starts affecting more than just a field of computers, will also affect several areas.

No matter which method you choose virus repair, make sure that you follow all instructionsYou just made. If your anti-virus program finds the virus but do not have the ability to remove them, you may still want a technician to visit the distance. This is the safest and most comprehensive way to try than to eliminate the errors themselves, which can sometimes be dangerous to the health of your computer as a whole.

How the Computer Memory System Works

They are probably tied to your computer with work and personal use. It is not surprising, considering how much time is spent working on computers per day. The world would collapse without them. But they can not work if they do not have the right amount of computer memory.

Everything is running your PC, from software to hardware, is the computer storage. It can also mean the difference between a fast computer and with one that lastsforever.

Your laptop or desktop memory is very important. It is like the PC is running and how to run the software. It is certainly more than to just a document that you enter or save the ability to create a song. The memory computer systems need is about how fast they run and how fast data can be loaded centered.

A PC's memory is the amount of memory on them. Taking for example generic memory, when a PC stores information in theirtemporary memory is able to run much faster.

The process of accessing computer storage is very simple. The Central Processing Unit (or CPU) wants to use the following information can be found first. Thus, important information stored on the computer keep efficiently in a temporary storage or the first cache.

Only after that will be in this file, the computer search through the long-term permanent storage. Both desktop computers and notebooks use the same method for the collection of hisInformation.

There are a few concepts that you need to know when it comes to the memory of your computer. The first is the RAM stands for Random Access Memory. The second is ROM (Read-Only Memory).

The third is the OS stands for Operating System and finally BIOS, the Basic Input / Output System is ". Each of these terms is used to describe how the PC memory is used to load the access to information and systems.

Computer memory is perhaps a bitcomplicated. There are a lot of terms to know, and it can be confusing. The best summary is that the faster the computer, the more it needs to get into a temporary folder on access to information.

Remember, as a Post-It note that you have a phone number to write when you're in a hurry, too. You will not leave, the number indicates when it is important that you save it somewhere else. But you have it there for quick reference.

Memory And Hard Drives, Clearing Up The Confusion

Today I would like to share with you sent a question from a reader who asks: "What is the difference between a hard disk and memory?" This is an excellent question and one that is often confused. To answer your question it will be a good idea to start with the basics. A hard disk is a mechanical event such as the size of a paperback book used to store information on your computer. The main components of a disk consists of plates or discs which are stackedtogether and spin at high speed. A spindle that rotates the panels. And finally, read a drive arm that travels across the disk or write.

Memory or RAM (random access memory), as it is commonly known, is a set of microchips that plugs into the sockets on a motherboard. Since RAM can be removed from the motherboard, it can easily be replaced or renewed. RAM as the hard disk stores information, so that the confusion. Now that we have aUnderstanding of what move to do the devices, Lets on the differences. A hard disk is used for long term storage and is not what we call non-volatile memory. That is, if you shut down your computer, the information is kept stored on your hard drive.

Everything in your computer by your operating system to the songs you hear, stored in your hard drive. Your computer uses RAM as temporary storage, which is also referred to as volatile data storage in RAM is removed immediatelyPower is lost. RAM and hard drives vary considerably in actual capacity. Their average is about 80-300GB hard drive. While in contrast, a typical computer has more than 512 MB - 2 GB of RAM installed. Since RAM is temporary storage, it does not require large storage capacity of your hard drive is required. Your computer can read data from RAM much faster than access could be from a hard drive. The reason is, unlike a hard drive where the drive arm across scan mustPanels for access to information, RAM has no moving parts, and data is reached almost immediately.

Let me give an example of cooperation, such as memory and hard drive. When you start an application like a word processor, the computer accesses the disk reads the data required to open the program, and loads the data into memory. Every word that you stored in RAM. I am sure you are of what happens when you half way through typing your Word document and you knowsuddenly lose power, has lost all your hard work. However, if the document was saved before the power failure occurred, the document would be written to disk. When power is restored, you are simply restart your computer, start the word processor, open your saved document and continue where you left off.

In summary, hard drives constantly loading data into memory. Data that is loaded into memory, they stay there until it is no longer needed, or start your system. BothDevices to store data, memory is limited in time, a hard disk is permanent. I hope this article was able to give you a better understanding of your two most important computer storage devices, and the differences between them.
